Water Feature Inspirations
A water feature is a very important element to the landscape.  It can be used as an accent or as the
main focus.  Incorporating a new water feature seamlessly into an existing landscape as if it were
always in place revives an established garden.  Installing a pond as the focal point in a new landscape
provides an anchor to be accented by the accompanying plantings.  Whether the water feature is a
small fountain or a great koi pond, great care should be taken to design the water feature with the best
intentions for the site, important views, and access.  Incorporating plantings inside and outside of the
water feature can make it appear as it was always in place.  A well designed water feature should
appear that the structures and landscape we created around it.

alternative for enthusiasts who want a waterfall and stream but does not want to keep fish or
have a pond. It’s great for public settings.  There’s no ecological need to run the system
continuously so it works very well with vacation homes.  A well designed pondless waterfall can
add relaxation and value to any landscape.

anything else you could do to your yard. A well-designed pond will
require less maintenance and water than the same square footage of
grass.  Plants and fish balance the ecosystem to prevent algae and
mosquitoes.  Waterfalls and streams add to the excitement and interest
of the garden.  Bogs and wetlands use plants as filtration and give the
appearance of a native body of water.

proper water filtration and movement, and fish cave will
provide protection from predators.
Streams are the connection between the waterfall and the
pond.  Great visual movement and sound can be created with
a stream.  You can enjoy a nice sit down or stroll next to a
babbling little brook.  Water talks as it splashes between the
rocks and gravel, ground cover hovering over its edges.  A
well feel as if you were in a far off place.
There is a unique challenge to designing and installing large scale
water features.  Insuring that the feature is oriented in the most visible
way; water flows are high enough to be viewed from a distance.
Using larger stones to create a more natural effect.
A more natural looking filter can be created than using a constructed wetland.  Using the filtering
stream,  or become an excellent addition to filter an existing earth bottom pond.  With their
excellent filtering capacity, wetlands have the ability of filters very large bodies of water, acres in
size and millions of gallons.  By incorporating plant material, a very natural look is achieved.
